Greetings in 2023!
After the past few surreal years, life is finally starting to feel a little bit more normal. We can see friends again, attend events, and dine in restaurants (and not have to be outside, even). And that is such a huge relief.
On the flip side, rising inflation is causing many people to go hungry as the price of groceries continues to skyrocket with no end in sight. This, of course, always disproportionately affects certain demographics who have historically been deprived of nutritious, affordable food (such as fresh fruits and vegetables), and it’s time that those of us who can afford it give more thought to how we can better spread resources around our communities, both individually and collectively.
Let’s make 2023 a year of “food generosity”!
Whether it comes in the form of giving a couple of vegetable seed packets and a container pot full of soil to a neighbor’s child, deliberately buying an extra food item when you grocery-shop to donate to a local food bank, starting a community garden, purchasing a CSA farm share to split with someone, or cooking extra soup that we can give away to a friend or another person with an empty belly, easing that ache of hunger and lack of dollars for someone is a gift and a necessity.
This year, I will be looking for ways to help with this effort. I’m especially interested in exploring the possibilities of using my Bounty from the Box cookbook as a fundraising tool for causes like school gardens and as an education tool for farmers and food organizations. If you’re interested in collaborating or know of useful resources, please drop me a note—I’d love to help.
And we’ll be showcasing talented food bloggers and their tasty, cost-conscious creations in both our blog and the already extensive recipe section on our website (check it out if you haven’t already—we have nearly 80 recipes up there)!
Stay tuned for an exciting year! And may 2023 bring you every sort of blessing imaginable.
