Zenger Farm in southeast Portland offers farm education, CSA farm shares that accept SNAP, and 24,000 pounds of local produce for schools, families, and chefs.
Situated on 19 acres of farm and wetland in southeast Portland, Zenger Farm is now one of the largest farm education centers in the nation. Through the operation of a working farm in the heart of the city, Zenger Farm provides visitors with the opportunity to observe and interact with the land and learn where good food comes from. Farmers Sara Cogan and Bryan Allan raise a variety of food crops, laying hens, and turkeys annually, and are joined each year by three new farm interns who learn sustainable small-farm management through hands-on work and supporting classes.
While the average bite of food travels 1500 miles from farm to fork, Zenger Farm grows produce for Portlanders—about 24,000 pounds annually. Farm produce can be found at local restaurants, Lents International Farmers Market and in Zenger’s Farm Shares program, one of Portland’s first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs to accept SNAP for shares.
